Elf on the Shelf - Days 16 - 18

Day 16

Naughty elves ate the advent chocolates - I did have to suggest that they didn't eat the girls advent chocolates for fear of tantrums (and thankfully mine were left alone too as Mr H realised it would have the same consequences!)

Day 17

Time for the elves to report back to Santa via "Santa Cam" (aka burglar alarm sensors!).  Whenever the little blue light comes on we tell the girls that either Santa or one of the elves is checking up on them.  Seems to work!

(After taking this photo Mr H realised that he could actually set it up on timer delay but I reckon his mug in the background is quite amusing!)

Day 18

I reckon he's slipping...by now the inspiration really seems to be lacking...

Miss R thought this was great because she could easily pick her elf up without touching her (and so she wouldn't lose her magic...the elf....not Miss R...Miss R doesn't have magic....I don't think...although come to think of it....)

The problem was she wandered around with her and then put her in a basket of washing because it would be cosy and we put the washing on...

When she realised Daddy had put the washing on (hence why there's darks and lights mixed...lets not start on THAT one!) she came haring downstairs at a rate of knots!

Jolly was rescued.  Not sure that Fimo and pipe cleaners would withstand a wash - even at 30!

Elf on the Shelf - Days 19 & 20 and Candy Cane Growth Report

Day 19

Blatantly stole this idea from a friend of ours but with a slight tweek.

The elves had some seeds and instructions of how to grow candy canes.

Day 20

No explanation required! (except to say the more close up photos of random parts of my house I see the more I am realising I need to do a proper spring clean!)

Don't worry friends and family - these bows won't be on your pressies...promise!

The Candy Canes

Well 24 hours later and we can see that some of the candy canes grew...and some not so much.  I think someone didn't believe enough and thats why they haven't fully grown.  That'll teach you Miss R!

NB/ Remember to remove the 'seeds' from the sugar once they've grown!

Elf on the Shelf - Day 15 An Adventure

From little acorns mighty oak trees grow!

A germ of an idea....

Wouldn't it be funny if we made a little campfire and the elves were sat around toasting marshmallows.

And so it began...

So this thing gets more and more complicated and involved multiple elves!!

Several of Miss R's friends have elves made by the same lovely lady and our germ of an idea (I say our - I mean mine but Mr H and I cannot agree on this and it could possibly be cited in divorce proceedings next year) became 'wouldn't it be funny if there was an elf get together!'  All the elves are different....but the same if you know what I mean.  They are clearly from the same 'family'.

The problem was that because this would take place at night we would need photographic evidence to leave for the kids in the morning and therefore last night saw two grown men of high intellect, scuttling around my friends garden trying to set a teeny tiny campfire.  The original plan had been to meet up at the local lake to set the scene but since it is known for drug deals this got vetoed fairly promptly and the plan was moved to a back garden!

My friend Emma posted on Facebook

"There are 2 grown men in my garden trying to photograph 4 small elves round a campfire toasting marshmallows. Oh how sunday nights have changed."

A response...

"have you been smoking mistletoe?!"

And this is what they ended up with...

Sasha, Kiplin Rosie, Jolly ToeBells and Peppermint Tinker around the campfire

The children came down in the morning to find the elves snuggled up in their bed in the Sylvanian Families house that they have gained squatters rights to over the last few weeks.

The photo was next to them.

Not content with that Mr H thought it was important to stage exactly how the elves got out and so here it is even though the kids didn't see this bit..

The girls had absolutely no idea who the other elves were until at school the following day when their friends took their photos in for show and tell and then discovered that the elves were their friends elves.

Absolutely priceless!

Elf on the Shelf - Day 14

Hah! I knew it'd happen sooner or later...late into the evening Mr H had forgotten to do something with Jolly and Peppermint. (insert evil laugh from me - mwa ha ha)

At the moment we have a sick chicken living in the kitchen (but THATS a whole other story!) and so as a last minute quick elf job the elves set up in the kitchen with the felts ready to draw Elsa (thats the chicken)

Frankly - their art isn't that great. It needs work...

Elf on the Shelf - Day 13

Unoriginal....and yet an Elf classic!

We did this last year but forgot to take photos.  The kids thought it was hilarious then....and being 5 and 7 still found it funny this time around!

Snow Angels!

Yet again I have to call in to question the housewifery skills. Look at the marks on that stainless steel.  Someone send me cleaning tips!

Elf on the Shelf - Day 12

By far the children's favourite elf antics are where the elves have done something cheeky like this!

Basically, anything involving toilet humour is a winner!  We couldn't go too over the top just in case one of the girls needed the loo in the night - didn't want to scare them!

I am constantly reminded that I am a useless housewife....look at that bit of skirting board!

Elf on the Shelf - Day 11

There's nothing worse than trying to blog with the added pressure of trying to 'be funny'.  Mr H is so delighted with his Elf efforts that a simple photo isn't adequate - I need to come up with comic witticisms to go with them!  And he says I'm high maintenance!

We have a rather oversized post box that we bring out each December to put any early Christmas Cards in courtesy of an empty Dyson box and several cans of spray paint.  On what planet we ever thought we would get THAT many cards I have no idea - a shoe box would have been fine but anyhow....

Night eleven saw the elves attempting to climb into the post box having crafted a ladder out of string...

He spent a long time crafting that little ladder.

Boo Makes Christmas

Worlds worst blogger!

I have just not been on the ball recently.

There is however a very good reason for this.  Considering I am single handedly keeping the stationery industry alive with all my purchases for organising myself I have found I am in fact the least organised person to ever walk the planet!

I spend far too much time procrastinating!

I have been making LOTS of Christmas goodies this year for sale via my new little venture, Boo Makes, and it has taken up a lot of time and a lot of the house!!

My items are available for sale at Etsy or via Facebook.

Here are a selection of the things I have made for Christmas 2014

Elf on the Shelf Day 10

Its never a good sign when your 36 year old husband comes upstairs chuckling to himself because he's amused with his own elf set up.

Judge for yourselves.....

My only issue with this is that it assume the Lego people come to life each night....now my girls may believe in magic elves and Santa but they're not STOOOPID.  Or are they?! (Definitely not - just filled with the wonder of Christmas)

Anyhow, Mr H thoroughly amused himself with this one. Tut tut.
